Hey there!
Scroll down to the Tutorial to skip my ramblings.
It seems as though the business card has existed for as long as business has; my grandparents would stockpile every local handyman or bakery's card, and even now in the age of digital marketplaces and services-on-demand, I'm often still handed the humble, traditional, tangible business card.
I like to imagine even Ea Nasir of ancient Mesopotamia handed out small hand-made clay tablets with cuneiform punched into them, describing who he is, what he delivers (or doesn't), where to find him, and how to reach him.
Well, hypothetical ancient business cards aside, the modern business card is forced to do a whole lot more. Standardized in America at three-and-a-half inches wide by 2 inches tall, today's cards must do all what our friend Ea's tablet had to do, and:
- Represent the quality, reputation, tier, and aesthetic of your brand.
- Capture attention and call-to-action.
- Standout and be memorable.
Still, it's not as easy as 1-2-3.

Tutorial
We worked diligently on the Ink Designer to make the user experience of printing Business Cards with Special Finishes completely painless.
You don't need to be an expert and you won't necessarily need complex mask files to create a stunning design.
We'll assume you've already picked one of the Special Finish products and are at the Designer.
In the Ink Designer, each individual image, text, icon, or shape is a Layer. A Layer can be assigned as a Special Finish Layer, which will apply a visual effect on the Layer in canvas representing how the Layer will be printed on the actual product.
On the right sidebar, in the Layers panel, you'll see a yellow box. This is the Special Finish Group. You can click on the Special Finish button on a Layer or drag'n'drop the Layer into this Group to apply the Special Finish.
Disclaimer: Visual representation of Special Finish Layers is accurate as a proof, not as a realistic preview of the Special Finish. The product image on the storefront is how it will actually look when your product is printed. We aim to resolve this visual disparity as soon as possible.
In the Ink Designer, you can:
- add Shapes using the left sidebar in ways that complement your design and set it to be printed in your chosen Special Finish.
- We love using a Rectangle with no fill to create eye-catching raised silver borders!
- We love using a Rectangle with no fill to create eye-catching raised silver borders!
- add Text and set it as Special Finish to make it memorable.
- add a mask file with transparency and set it as a Special Finish Layer (recommended for those uploading their own design).
...and more! The Ink Designer is easy to use yet highly capable, click here to give it a whirl! You don't even have to commit to a product to begin, simply select a template or start with a blank canvas to start playing with text, images, backgrounds, and more.
